Applying A Secure SSL To Your CMS

Google now blocks non-advanced access to most sites that do not have a secure SSL applied, as a CNAME your CMS will not have a secure SSL applied by default.

AppInstitute supports the use of Cloudflare’s free SSL service, so you don’t need to incur any additional costs

When using cloudflare, you will have to copy your DNS records over from your existing domain provider. You will be guided through this when signing up. If the domain is used for email / website hosting then be sure that all existing DNS records on the domain are copied over exactly before updating name servers on your current domain provider.

When adding the DNS records it’s best to set them to the grey cloud: so they work normally and are unaffected by cloudflare.

The CNAME record for the CMS is the same as usual, however the orange cloud must be set so SSL can be enabled

To enable SSL, go to the crypto tab and choose the ‘Flexible’ option and enable ‘Always use HTTPS’:

These setting apply to all DNS records with the orange cloud icon, so ensure only the CNAME record for the CMS has this enabled, or you are certain the other records support this setting.
